Girls Weekend 2013

Not long ago Cambree and I met my best friend from college, Melissa and her daughter Harper, in Wichita for our annual Girls Weekend.  This year we decided that we would forego getting Christmas presents and just plan our weekend for January.

Last year we stayed at the Drury Broadview Hotel in downtown Wichita and LOVED it!  So this year we quickly booked our stay there again.  I think we loved it even more this time around!! If you ever need a nice place to stay in Wichita, this is the place for you.  The breakfast is scrumptious, the pool is awesome, the exercise facility is top notch, the have a drink bar and hot appetizers from 5:30-7:00 every night.  It's a perfect fit for us four girls.  We can stay in our yoga pants most of the day and don't have to get out except to eat lunch and to do a little shopping.

First on our agenda was to get wet!!

After a quick dip in the pool and some yummy appetizers of baked potatoes, nachos, salad, and chili...which ends up being our supper, we headed out for a quick trip to Jo-Ann's to get a few craft supplies. Back to the hotel for a little knitting for the girls and getting started on some Valentine wreaths for Melissa and me.

The girls also watched some Learning Station videos on YouTube. Baby Shark, Peel Peel Banana, Goin' on a Bear Hunt, and Boom Chicka Boom. They had a blast doing them and Melissa and I had good flashbacks to our childhoods. If you need something fun and entertaining for your kids to do while you fix dinner or get a project finished, just set them up with the Learning Station. They have all sorts of videos that kids love.

Saturday morning brought us back to the pool again.

At lunch time we headed out for our favorite fast-food place in Wichita, Spangles. This is a regional thing and if you have never eaten there, then you MUST do so!! They have the best burgers and fries and they have all sorts of ice cream treats. The restaurants are all decorated in a 1950's theme, complete with statues of Marilyn and Elvis.

A couple stops at Absolute Vintage, Hobby Lobby, Nail Bar, Dillards, Jo-Anns, World Market, and Target!! The girls were going downhill until our stop at Nail bar. After a quick shellac manicure for the big girls and a paint job for Harper, they were ready to get on with the rest of our shopping.

We ended up taking one more dip in the pool and hot tub after another appetizer supper at the hotel. Then it was back to the room to finish up our projects.

The girls made fleece tie blankets and Melissa and I made these adorable burlap and fabric wreaths just in time for Valentine's day. Our inspiration came from this post at Tatertots and Jello. Don't doubt the number of circles she tells you to cut...just do what she says the first go around!!

I love the way it turned out!

We ate breakfast Sunday morning after another quick dip in the pool and then packed up our numerous bags and headed home! I am always sad to have to leave, but always feel refreshed. Just being able to visit with my bestie and watch our girls get to know each other better makes me feel good.

You know it is a good Girls Weekend, when you can jump on the bed in your swimsuit! Good thing you didn't post THE picture of us doing that! :)
We had an awesome weekend with you two! Counting down to next year!
