Handmade Christmas

stocking + Preston

There is something very special about having handmade things around during Christmas. Each one of us has a stocking like this that was cross-stitched by my Grandma Betty. I had to take this picture today to send to my Dad so he could remind her that we needed to have a stocking for Westynn. Over the next few days, I will take pictures and post each of our stockings. They really are a treasure to me. {And if you are wondering why Preston wasn't holding this, he was too busy watching Battle 360 to bother with a photo for the blog!}

Thanksgiving

IMG_8522 edit

My little Turkeys in their turkey shirts!

We had a fantastic thanksgiving! After sleeping in and having warm biscuits for breakfast, we dressed and the kids stayed at Grandma's while I did some shopping at Duckwalls 20% off sale. Then we went to Janis and Jerry's {my step-aunt and uncle} for dinner. It is always delicious and wonderful!

Turkey
Ham
Dressing
Mashed Potatoes
Noodles
Gravy
Corn
Green Bean Casserole
Broccoli & Cauliflower
Seven layer salad {and yes I did eat some this year!}
Jello salad
Deviled Eggs
Relish tray
HOMEMADE ROLLS!!!!

And after we are finished stuffing our faces with this, we move on to the pies and desserts. I don't eat pie, so I am not sure of all the flavors, but I do know that everyone raved about them.

I am ashamed that I don't have more pictures to show you...but I am going to blame it on the nice weather. I spent more time outside enjoying the warm day.

In the afternoon we went out to the ranch and Westynn got to meet his Great Grandma Stapleton for the first time. And his Aunt Sharon and Uncle Roy. They couldn't believe how big he is...and they think he looks like Preston!

Preston spent some time working on his bow-hunting before Jeremy took off to go deer hunting.

All in all it was a great day! We spent Friday getting out our Christmas decorations and putting most of them up. I will try and get that post up tomorrow, but not promises.

And since Westynn missed his post on Wednesday, here is his picture!

I'm baaaack! You are in for an extra special treat today!!! Not only do I get to hi-jack Momma's blog, but this will be the 200th post at So Happy Together.

That's a lot of writing, photography and what-not that you have had to put up with, huh? Momma said to tell you all that she is glad you take the time to read this, even if you don't post a comment {though I know she really likes it when you do!}

So, now back to me...another easy-peasy week for me. Most of what I have been doing is just hanging out, eating, pooping, sleeping, talking and occassionally throwing a fit. Yep. I did a number on Mom during church on Sunday...I don't know when she will take me back! She never did figure out what was wrong with me exactly...I'm not sure that I know what my problem was. Guess church just didn't agree with me.

IMG_8369

I am looking forward to this weekend, because we get to go to Iowa to a Birthday Party!

Momma has warned me about the LOOOOONG ride in the car and I am trying hard to decide if I should be good or throw a fit and show them who is really the boss...You should probably check in next week to find out how it went!

Turkey T-shirt Tuesday

IMG_8362

While browsing the internet for Thanksgiving craft ideas to do with the kiddos I ran across these printables for iron-on transfers. I thought it would be so cute to have the kids in matching turkey tee's for thanksgiving {notice the use of the letter T in this post!!!}.

IMG_8363

Cambree and I set out this afternoon to make the shirts! It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and the girls had fun doing a project together! Cambree wore hers to model for me, but the boys will have to wait until Turkey day.

IMG_8364
{notice those FAB-U-LOUS cabinets in the background? They photograph so much better than the mutli-colored ones from before!}

If you want to make your kids some Thanksgiving Turkey T-shirts {but you have to wait until Thursday to make it more fun!}, I found the printable turkey at www.dltk-kids.com. They also have a pilgrim printable and LOTS of fun things for kids! Have fun and Happy Thanksgiving!

I had a lunch date today! It was my first one and I got to go with two of the prettiest ladies I know. My Momma and Grandma had the day off, so when Grandma Robin called and asked momma if we wanted to go to Greensburg to the Green Bean Coffee Co. for lunch, we said YES!

Momma was excited because she said she never gets asked to lunch and I was excited because I got to spend some time being spoiled! Momma said her lunch was really good, but since she wouldn't let me have a bite, I will have to take her word for it. She said I should tell you that if you are in Greensburg you should definitely stop by for a sandwich or some coffee.

If you are wondering how big I am getting, my mom put all my 0-3 month clothes away this week and got out the 3-6 month clothes. And while she was putting them away, I heard her say that it won't be long and I will have outgrown some of these as well. I am still eating well and mom is counting down the days until I can start eating some cereal. We are both hoping it helps my tummy troubles and that Mom can get some sleep at night!

I also went to my first auction this week. I wasn't all that impressed, because it was loud and I couldn't understand a word that auctioneer was saying. I got lots of attention though and I had a ton of people tell me that I am cute {but I already knew that because Momma tells me ALL the time}.

Wednesday With Westynn

westynn B&W

Whew! I am so glad to be back here chatting with you today. I know this is a day late, but last night Mom insisted that I needed to go to bed. She mumbled something about everyone else just having to wait, she needed me to go to bed and then there was something about it being a lot easier if my brother and sister would stop screaming from the other end of the house. Maybe when I get bigger I will understand what she is talking about!

So, the past week...can't say that there was a terrible amount of excitement in my life. I am still doing the normal things I like to do, such as talk and smile at my mom A LOT! I think she is pretty fantastic. I am talking more and more each day and finding that my voice can be soft and LOUD! It's pretty fun to holler and see who comes running.

I am also spending more of my days awake now and trying to get on a little bit of a schedule. However, today I am totally messing with my mom and only took about a 30 minute nap this morning...I am going to try and sleep longer for her this afternoon, I promise :)!

I guess there was one neat, new thing. Something my family kept referring to as "Trick-or-Treating." I am still a little unclear about the whole thing. All I know is that my dressed me up in the ridiculous orange outfit and everyone kept calling me a little pumpkin.

IMG_8172_westynn close

As you can see from this picture, I wasn't all that happy about it. Anyways, Preston and Cambree put on "costumes", again, whatever those are and then we got in and out of the car about 100 times! Mom did have the decency to strap me to her chest, so I just went to sleep. Slept through the whole thing! Then once we got home, brother and sister dumped bags of stuff on the floor and then with the help of Daddy they proceeded to open and inhale whatever it was they had collected. I overheard Momma telling someone that I probably won't sleep through it next year, so it must be something pretty fun, this "Trick-or-treating." Guess I will have to find out next year.

Okay, well I am going to go and try to give Mom a break and catch a little shut eye. You know, it is a lot of hard work for someone with hands as little as mine to do all this typing! :) See ya next week!

Postponed Wednesdays with Westynn

Due to the fact that Westynn is already snug as a bug in his bed and his Momma is exhausted...Wednesdays with Westynn will be posted sometime tomorrow.

Be sure to check back...it's a cute pic!

Soapbox and photo show

I am sitting here pondering the idea of teaching one thing and doing another. Does this just come naturally for some people or is it something that comes with time?

Now, I don't claim to be perfect or to have always done the right thing, but I do think that I am trying really hard to do the things that I am teaching my kids.

My struggle comes tonight from a phone call I received about a church related issue. I have to start to wonder sometimes if God just looks down on us shakes his head, and thinks to himself "Some people just don't get it."

In S.S. we have been studying the topic How to Listen to God. Lately, He has been telling me that I need to do more to develop a more intimate relationship with Him. The other thing really pressing on my heart and mind is that it's not all about us...church, life, family, things...ultimately it all belongs to Him and He can take it all away at an instant.

Relating this to my experience this evening is not as easily put into words as I would like it to be. I guess what I should have said in the phone conversation was just what I wrote above. That's it's not about us. It's not about when and how often people are coming, but that they are coming to begin with. It's not about doing or not doing things a certain way, it's about praising God and giving Him glory. It's about being a Christian and doing the right thing, because that's what we do. It's about being the bigger person.

Argh....so now I have been on my little soapbox and I don't really feel much better. So let me show you some favorite photos.

One of the kids took this, don't remember who, but I think it's pretty good for tiny hands and a big camera!

I love this little girl and being her aunt! Wish she lived closer so I could spoil her more!

I could go on and on, but I guess I will stop for now and head to bed for a little shut eye. The time change is still catching us!

Heard today

"Mom, I wish it was Thanksgiving already."

"Why?"

"Because, I am SOOOO hungry."

Said one famished boy after school!
